Allergies Start in the Gut

Allergic Reactions Start From Within

If you are having allergic reactions, the cause could be from within rather than from outside.

Wait, what?! It's true, and allergic response is a gut issue.

Our gut is the immune system control center, with billions of live bacteria running our body's immune system response. A regular diet of fermented foods containing beneficial bacteria supporting gut health can help you say goodbye to allergies once and for all!

What is an Allergy?

An allergy occurs when our immune system reacts to a substance, an allergen, in an environment that is harmless for most people. These substances are most often associated with airborne pollen but can also beites, pet dander, insects, mold, some foods, found in dust mites, and some prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

When you have an allergic response, your immune system views the allergen as an invader. A chain reaction is initiated, triggering white blood cells to produce antibodies for protection. These antibodies attach themselves to special cells called mast cells, causing a release of potent chemicals such as histamine.

How Do Allergies Start?

Many things can cause an imbalanced or impaired immune system. Fatigued adrenal glands, nutritional deficiencies from a poor diet, prolonged stress, go-go lifestyles, negative emotions such as worry and fear, smoking, and excess alcohol consumption can all lead to allergies of all kinds. We don’t have to look far in today's go-go world for sources of stress.

Rest, a nourishing diet, and supplementation, including vitamins A, C, D, and E., can rebuild our overworked adrenal glands.

The Most Common Allergy Areas:

  • The nose, eyes, sinuses, and throat – When allergens are inhaled, histamine release causes the lining of your nose to produce mucus and become swollen and inflamed. It causes your nose to run, and itch and violent sneezing may occur. Your eyes may also start to water, and you may get a sore throat.
  • The lungs and chest—An allergic reaction can sometimes trigger asthma. When an allergen is breathed in, the lining of the passages in the lungs swells, making breathing difficult. Not all asthma is caused by allergy, but allergy plays a part in many cases.
  • The stomach and bowel—Most stomach upsets are caused by the richness or spiciness of the food rather than an actual allergy. However, foods most commonly associated with allergies include peanuts, seafood, dairy products, and eggs.
  • Skin—Skin problems such as eczema (dry, red, itchy skin) and urticaria (hives) often occur. Hives are white, itchy bumps that look and feel like insect bites. Food may be a factor in some cases of hives and eczema.

Probiotics Shown to Help Reduce Allergic Response

Our stomachs and intestines contain billions of good and harmful bacteria, essential for digesting food and supporting immune system functions. Probiotic means “for life,” while antibiotic means “anti-life.” This indicates how these fantastic bacteria fight for our bodies against disease.

Our gut has a protective lining called the mucosal barrier, built from gut cells, a mucous bacteria. This barrier keeps undigested food, bacteria, layer, and gut potential allergic compounds from crossing into the bloodstream.

Scientific research is now demonstrating that consuming foods containing probiotics (good bacteria) can help decrease allergic reactions in the gut, such as food allergies and whole-body allergic reactions.

Probiotics are not just for allergies! Improving your gut microflora also improves your skin, helps you maintain a healthy weight, gives you energy, and supports your overall well-being.
